Unlike the completely bogus stamps produced for Gagauzia, PMR (Pridnestrovie or Transnistria as it is often referred to) does indeed issue genuine postage stamps which are valid for local deliveries within its borders.
The Republic of Moldova and the United Nations Organization do not officially recognize the PMR State and consequently the UPU will not recognize the validity of their postage stamps. For this reason, none of the major stamp catalogue publishers will list any material from PMR.
However, the fact remains that over 500,000 people live within the territory of PMR and they all rely on the local postal services. Letters and postcards bearing the locally emitted stamps are, in truth, delivered locally. Any reasonable collector will therefore accept that the stamps emitted by PMR are completely legitimate "locals" and are worthy of full philatelic study.
We have created a sister web site at www.pmrstamps.org where we provide full details for all philatelic materials associated with PMR. We hope you find that catalogue to be interesting and informative.
MoldovaStamps.org is not insensitive to the social, civic and political consequences arising out of the disputes over this territory. MoldovaStamps.org is purely an information service and as such, must maintain a strict policy of impartiality regarding this matter. MoldovaStamps.org believes that it would be in dereliction of its duty to provide full and complete information service to the world-wide community of philatelists if it failed to provide a complete study of the local postal history of this disputed territory.
MoldovaStamps.org apologises for any offence or upset that the inclusion of this information may cause to civic-minded citizens of the Republic of Moldova and hopes that they understand and appreciate our position.
