The Post of Moldova has already commemorated this World Post Day on several occasions in the past, under various forms : stamp series issued in 1997 and 2002, prepaid envelope in 2006, special cancellations in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2012. As a reminder, this World Post Day ("Ziua Mondială a Poştei" in Romanian) is celebrated every year on October 9th (since 1969) to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern. According to the UPU, "the purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries".
