According to the United Nations General Assembly resolution of June 15, 2007, the International Day of Non-Violence is observed annually on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. This international day, proposed at the time by the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, is an opportunity to spread the message of non-violence, in particular through education and awareness-raising actions and to promote a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence in the world. According to a Gandhi's quote: "Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man"..
