Lidia Istrati (22 June 1941 in Sofia – 25 April 1997 in Chişinău) was a writer and politician from Moldova. She was born to Nicolae and Xenia and had a PhD in biology. Lidia Istrati, a graduate in biology, was above all a woman committed to freedom, human dignity, social justice and independence of Moldova in 1991. Member of Parliament between 1990 and 1997, Lidia Istrati fought constantly and courageously against the corruption of elites, for fair compensation of workers or peasants (her father had worked all his life in a kolkhoz).
