Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin (French pronunciation: ​[pjɛʁ də kubɛʁtɛ̃]; 1 January 1863 – 2 September 1937) was a French educator and historian, and founder of the International Olympic Committee. He is considered the father of the modern Olympic Games. The year 2013 marks (among other things) the 150th anniversary of the birth of Baron Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937), founder of the IOC and father of the modern Olympic Games in 1894. Some postal administrations have already planned to issue a special stamp in his honor, some others, such as the Moldovan Post, chose to issue a postal stationery. Read more..
