On June 24, 1926, the first airmail service was held between the cities of Bucharest, Romania and Chisinau, Moldova, via Galaţi. This connection was then operated by the French-Romanian Air Navigation Company (CFRNA, "Compania Franco-Română de Navigație Aeriană"), the first international company for transcontinental air transport of passengers, goods and postal items, created in 1920. The beginnings of aviation in Moldova, however, date from June 1, 1922 with the first airline between Bucharest and Chisinau aboard a de Havilland DH.9. On June 24, 2016 the Poșta Moldovei has put into circulation in Chisinau (MD-2012) a special cancellation commemorating the 90th anniversary of this first airmail service Bucharest-Chisinau-Bucharest.
