Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Austria were officially established on 25 March 1992. An Embassy of Moldova has been opened in Vienna for several years, while the Austrian Embassy in Chişinău was inaugurated on 3 February 2016 (the Austrian Development Agency was established there since 2004). Since 1992, Austria signed several cooperation and development agreements with Moldova and has worked for a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Transnistria. Large Austrian companies are based in Moldova, particularly in the banking, insurance and telecommunications sectors. 25 years to the day after the beginning of these diplomatic relations, the Post of Moldova has put into circulation a new special postmark (the 12th of the same type this year) devoted to this anniversary.
