Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre (Romanian: Teatrul Național Vasile Alecsandri din Bălți) in Bălți, is one of the national theatres of Moldova. Founded in 1957, it was given the name of the renowned Romanian playwright and poet Vasile Alecsandri. On May 16, 2017, the Post of Moldova put into circulation a special postmark dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the creation of the National Theater "Vasile Alecsandri" in Bălţi, the "capital" of northern Moldova. Designed by Maria Maximenco, this postmark released in Bălţi (MD-3118) was applied to the illustrated envelope below (No. 2/2016, print run : 5,000), also designed by Maria Maximenco, on the occasion of the 595th anniversary of the founding of this same city of Bălţi. The coat of arms of Bălţi as well as various monuments of the city are featured on this envelope (municipal park on the right), in particular this National Theater "Vasile Alecsandri" (its same facade is included on the postmark), the monument dedicated to Stefen the Great in front of the City Hall or the bell tower of the St. Nicolas Church.
