The Post of Moldova had already issued a stamp in 1999 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the official adoption of the Latin alphabet for the Moldovan language, two years before the country's independence in 1991. Cyrillic alphabet was previously used during the Soviet era between 1940 and 1989 (this alphabet is however still used in the separatist region of Transnistria). On August 30, 2014, it is this time a prepaid envelope that was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the restoration of the Latin alphabet ("25 de ani de la revenirea la grafia latină").
