If she had not been lost to cancer in 1997 at the age of 55, many agree that Lidia Istrati (1941-1997) would have been an ideal candidate for the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova, shaken currently by a political crisis. Lidia Istrati, a graduate in biology, was above all a woman committed to freedom, human dignity, social justice and independence of Moldova in 1991. Member of Parliament between 1990 and 1997, Lidia Istrati fought constantly and courageously against the corruption of elites, for fair compensation of workers or peasants (her father had worked all his life in a kolkhoz).
