Gheorge Vrabie (born on March 21, 1939, Călinești, Fălești, Bălți county, and died on March 31, 2016, Chișinău) was a Moldovan artist, the author of the Coat of arms of the Republic of Moldova and of the Flag of the Chișinău Municipality, of the national currency for which he was named the "Father of the Moldovan Leu". From 1962 to 1967 he studied at the "Ilya Repin" State Academic Institute of Fine Arts, Sculpture and Architecture (now Imperial Academy of Arts) from Saint Petersburg . In 1961 was his first debute. It has illustrated over the years several volumes of Roman and universal literature. The artist's interest turned to such authors as Mihai Eminescu, Ion Druţă, Grigore Vieru, Dante, Longus, Paul Valery. The books’ graphics by Gheorghe Vrabie are distinguished by line intensity, accuracy and fine execution.

On March 21, 2019, the Post of Moldova issued a new prepaid envelope (valid for a domestic shipment up to 20g - 1.75 L) dedicated to the 80th anniversary (day to day) of the birth of the artist Gheorghe Vrabie, born in 1939 in the village of Călineşti, died in 2016 in Chişinău. Designed by Vitaliu Pogolşa, this envelope (No 03/2019, print run: 10,000, selling price: 3 L) features a pre-printed stamp showing a portrait of Gheorghe Vrabie, the illustration on the left featuring him, older, in front of the national flag of the Republic of Moldova.
