On December 24, 2015, the Institute of Philology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova commemorated, to the day, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Eugeniu Russev (1915-1982), a philologist, literary critic, archeograph and specialist of medieval history. This commemoration was organized to remind his work, particularly his works devoted to the Romanian language (he demonstrated that it was not of Slavic origin but Latin), the history and literature of Moldova (he published several Russian-Moldovan dictionaries) when he was a member of the Institute of language and literature in Chişinău. Such as other scholars from Romania or who studied in Romania (Nicolae Corlăteanu, Vasile Coroban, Andrei Lupan...), Eugeniu Russev came to Moldova after the war and denounced the Stalinist totalitarian regime in USSR.
