The National Folk Music Orchestra "Lăutarii" (Orchestra Națională de muzică populară "Lăutarii") was founded in Chișinău in 1970 by the famous singer Nicolae Sulac, the conductors being the composer and violinist Mircea Oţel, then the trumpet player Gheorghe Usaci. In 1978 the violinist Nicolae Botgros (born in 1953) became the conductor of this orchestra, composed of musicians who play whistle, violin, cello, bass, drums and other popular musical instruments, but also singers among whom were artists such as Nicolae Sulac, Ion Paladi, Nicolae Cibotaru, Lidia Bejenaru, Nicu Mâță ....
