In its series "Famous Persons", the Post of Moldova has put into circulation, on November 22, 2016, a special souvenir sheet, consisting of one stamp (L 5.75), dedicated to the painter Mihail Grecu (1916-1998) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth. This souvenir sheet (design : Oleg Cojocari, print run : 20,000) appears on the pretty official FDC below (print run : 200) with cancellation from Chişinău (MD-2012). Mihail Grecu, who was also a poet, nicknamed the "Master of Color", is considered as one of the greatest Moldovan painters of the 20th century, co-founder of the National School of Painting, with a unique style ranging from classical to naive, often inspired by Moldovan folk art. Complex personality, Mihail Grecu is considered as an innovator having revolutionized the visual arts in Moldova. Read more..
