The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), also known as the UN Refugee Agency, is a United Nations agency mandated to protect and support refugees at the request of a government or the UN itself and assists in their voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement to a third country. The Post of Moldova is the only postal administration in the world to commemorate this year the 60th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). A special stamp (L 1.20) has indeed been issued on November 25, 2011, featuring two hands protecting a group of refugees, with the logo of the UN refugee agency at the top. It is that stamp that appears on the nice official FDC below (print run : 300 only !), designed by Vitalie Roşca, with a FDC cancellation of Chişinău. Read more..
