Since its first series devoted to Summer Olympic Games (Barcelona 1992), the Post of Moldova had already issued stamps evoking athletics or canoeing (sprint) in 1992 and 1996. Two new sport events being part of these two disciplines have been chosen to be featured on the two stamps issued on July 25, 2016 on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, held from 5 to 21 August 2016. Designed by Vitaliu Pogolşa, this series appears on the official FDC below (print run : 500) with cancellation from Chișinău (MD-2012).
