2019: International Year of the Periodic Table of Elements & International Year of Indigenous Languages

On December 20, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly, jointly with UNESCO, proclaimed 2019, the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements ("IYPT 2019"). This "IYPT2019" aims to "recognize the importance of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements as one of the most important and influential achievements of modern science reflecting the essence not only of chemistry, but also of physics, biology and other basic science disciplines". The year 2019 was chosen to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of this Periodic Table of Chemical Elements by the Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev (1834-1907), considered one of the fathers of modern chemistry..
