Mărțișor (mərt͡siˈʃor) is a celebration at the beginning of spring, on March the 1st in Romania, Moldova, and all territories inhabited by Romanians and Moldovans. The word Mărțișor is the diminutive of Marț, the old folk name for March (martie, in modern Romanian), and thus literally means "little March".  Read more..

The arrival of spring in Moldova (but also in Romania or Bulgaria) marks a time of celebration in the country, coupled with the idea of revival, this season symbolizing rebirth, purity, hope and a new beginning in life. In Moldova, we celebrate Mărţişor at dawn on March 1, when inhabitants welcome the arrival of spring and offer each other mărţişoare as gifts to bring happiness and good luck. On March 1, 2019, the Post of Moldova released a new stamp devoted to this tradition of Mărţişor - symbol of Spring ("Mărţişor - simbol al primăverii") and in particular to the International Music Festival Mărţişor ("Festivalul Internațional de Muzică Mărțișor") organized for the occasion.. .
