On September 21, 2020, the Post of Moldova issued a very nice stamp dedicated to the Vărzărești monastery on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of its foundation. During the Soviet period, most of the country's Orthodox monasteries were desecrated, destroyed, transformed into psychiatric hospitals, prison camps, entertainment clubs ... This was the case with this Vărzărești monastery, closed and desecrated by the Soviet authorities in 1959. The bells were dismantled, the icons were removed, the church books and archives were burned, the monastic complex was devastated, and the bell tower and a body of houses which housed the weaving and sewing workshop were demolished..
