The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The premise of the day is to raise awareness around the world that women are subjected to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden. For 2014, the official theme framed by the UN Secretary-General’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women, is Orange your Neighbourhood.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Of the 300 official FDC envelopes printed, an unknown quantity were distributed to local stamps dealers, without postmarks and without postage stamps. This is in contravention of long-established rules. The offical FDC bears the stamp No. 1152 only. Although 300 FDC envelopes were printed, it is not known how many were distributed with correct postmark and stamp. Private FDCs made using any material other than No. 1152 must be considered false.
