Months of the Year by Their Traditional Folk Names (IV)

n the Romanian and Moldovan popular tradition, the calendar has its own names for the months, which appear in certain contexts, for example on the ecclesiastical calendars produced by the Orthodox Church. All these month names are of Latin origin, indicating that their use is prior to the Slavic period (around the 8th century), 6 having their names derived from the characteristics of the months, 5 being derived from the Latin names now used in the Gregorian calendar (however, each of them has a folk etymology and additional meaning) and 1 (December) taking its name from Saint Andrew.. IMPORTANT NOTE: Of the 300 official FDC envelopes printed, an unknown quantity were distributed to local stamps dealers, without postmarks and without postage stamps. This is in contravention of long-established rules. The offical FDC bears the souvenir sheet (block) No. 86 only. Although 300 FDC envelopes were printed, it is not known how many were distributed with correct postmark and block. Private FDCs made using any material other than Block No. 86 must be considered false.
