On December 5, 2017, the death of King Michael I of Romania (96 years) in his residence in Switzerland, was officially announced. King Michael I's life was tumultuous, marked by two reigns, 1927-1930 and 1940-1947, the first of them under a regency (Michael was only 5 years old) and the second one under the sign of World War II. In 1927, Michael acceded to the throne instead of his father, Charles, then having a relatively dissolute privacy life (however, he returned to the throne between 1930 and 1940 under the name of Charles II). In 1940, the pro-Nazi government of Marshal Ion Antonescu mounted a coup against King Charles II, forced to abdicate in favor of Michael I, then a second time on the throne.. Read more..
