On November 1, 2021, painter Valentina Rusu Ciobanu (b. 1920), one of the most famous and beloved visual artists of the Republic of Moldova, witness to the troubled 20th century and the history of this land, and a creator who had the strength to follow her path and her vision, has died. With her husband, plastic artist Glebus Sainciuc (1919-2012), Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu was indeed one of the great figures of culture in the country, skillfully mastering colors and shapes. Valentina Rusu Ciobanu belongs to the generation of Bessarabian plastic artists trained in the cultural atmosphere of interwar Romania, but who created during the second half of the 20th century, in the extremely contradictory context of socio-political realities dictated by the totalitarian communist regime..
